UK consumer prices soared to 3.4% in March, up from 3% in the previous month, on the back of higher costs for petrol and clothing, official figures have shown.

The rise in Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation rate was greater than analysts had expected. Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation, which includes housing costs, also rose sharply to 4.4% in March from 3.7%.
