There is a curious omission in Jon Snow's Shooting History and it concerns his five-star gladiatorial combat with Alastair Campbell when, with all guns blazing, the prime minister's former director of communications invaded the Channel 4 News studio as Snow was conducting a live interview with a BBC governor about the Hutton report. "A mugging is quite a good way to describe the Campbell incident," reflects Snow as he wolfs down a Caesar salad between signing sessions for the book he has subtitled, A Personal Journey.
"I was facing the video screen, talking to Dame Pauline Neville- Jones, my back to the empty guest chair on the other side of the desk, and suddenly in my earpiece I heard that Campbell had entered the building uninvited and wanted to do an interview.
