IT has taken 23 years, but drinkers seem finally to have succumbed to the charms of the wine with a screw-cap.

Two years ago, just one in 500 wines sold by Tesco, the UK's largest seller, were screw-cap. That number has now grown to one in six, and the supermarket has predicted that this will rise to one in two by the end of 2005.
