Remember when Alvaro Quiros holed a colossal putt on the 18th green of the Earth course to win the Dubai World Championship and bring the curtain down on the 2011 European Tour campaign? Of course you do. It was only 20 odd days ago. Well, forget all that. This is 2012 and the Race back to Dubai will start all over again today at the Africa Open in East London.

For the eight-strong band of Scots competing, this is the chance to hit the ground running and make an early impact before the leading lights of the circuit emerge from a brief hibernation. Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 Open champion, and Retief Goosen, the double US Open winner, headline the field in their home country but, as is the norm for these start-of-season affairs, it is, by and large, a modest line-up.
