SENIOR police have created a specialist unit to crack down on internal corruption because of increasing attempts by serious and organised crime to infiltrate forces.

Strathclyde Police counter corruption enquiries have increased from 68 in 2001-2002 to 340 during 2008-2009, partly as a result of the pro-active work of the new unit and partly due to the increasing and emerging threat from gangsters.
