THE widely criticised crofting reform bill should be abandoned, an expert who once backed the legislation will tell MSPs next month.

Highland historian Jim Hunter, founding director of the Scottish Crofters Union and chairman of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, will say only two of its elements should pass into law, and a wide- ranging consultation into the future of land tenure should be launched.
