I MUST question how you can justify the interpretation of a decision, taken by East Ayrshire Council, to close one school, Crossroads Primary, and present it as a supposed cull ("Nats pave the way for cull on rural schools", The Herald, July 28).

It is not the case that all rural schools are now under threat. It is for the relevant local authority to take any decision regarding school closures. It is for the Scottish Government to ensure that the correct process set out in the relevant legislation is followed to make sure decisions are robust, transparent and put the educational impact at the heart of the decision.
