GREAT Britain's Davis Cup team are in deep trouble after Switzerland took a commanding two-point lead thanks to opening-day wins for Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka over Scots Alan Mackin and Andy Murray yesterday.

Seeking to preserve Switzerland's place in the elite 16nation World Group, Federer fired them in front with a thunderous 6-0, 6- 0, 6-2 victory over Mackin, the world No.262. The world No.1 then looked on as Wawrinka doubled the lead with a more tightly- contested 6-3, 7-6, 6-4win overMurray.
