THE Ministry of Defence spent [pounds]259m on a botched deal that has helped leave British armed forces with only two-thirds of the battlefield helicopters they need, MPs said yesterday.

The House of Commons public accounts committee criticised the purchase of eight Chinook heavy-lift helicopters which have been grounded since 1995 for safety reasons.
