THE UK's global trade deficit surged to a record in August, as the worst-ever oil balance and an estimated GBP1.4bn of payments from insurance market Lloyd's of London for Hurricane Katrina- related claims took their toll.
National Statistics said yesterday that the UK's deficit in goods and services trade with the rest of the world jumped to an all-time high of GBP5.34bn in August, from an upwardlyrevised GBP3.94bn in July. The trade records started in 1697.See the full content of this document
