Summary
YOUR leader, Definition of terrorism (September 17), covered a lot of ground but still failed to cover a few important aspects of terrorism which help to block an overall definition of this repeated tragedy. Perhaps the basic fault lies in the fact that terrorism does not only refer to unlawful killing but also to non-violent forms affecting innocents at all levels.
There are factors such as the deprivation of an individual, organisation or community of official status within the state. The gradual erosion of civil liberties in the name of saving democracy is perhaps one such step and may well lead to the gradual dismantling of the state; in a manner of speaking, no one person can, in reality, terrorise a nation unless its leaders fail to take into account all of the factors causing concern and then making every endeavour to find a peaceful and equable solution.
