Federer loses his cool against Russian The Swiss gold medal favourite, Roger Federer, lost his cool at yesterday in a rare flash of temper but recovered to win his men's singles first round.

He beat the Russian Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 but received an official warning for ball abuse after hitting it on to the roof of the centre court in frustration at the start of the second set. At the time, he was trailing 3-0 but recovered to serve for the match at 5-4 before losing the set.
