Wilson Evans, a former finance director and chief executive of Semple Cochrane, pledged to contest the disciplinary charges which have been laid against him by an accounting watchdog following a long investigation into the company's near collapse in 2000.

Evans, who served briefly as chief executive of the Paisley engineering firm after Tom Clark, its controversial founder stood down, said he would fight proceedings launched by the Joint Disciplinary Scheme. These could result in unlimited fines and professional disgrace.
