LUKE Mitchell's mother has said it would be "disastrous" if he was freed on a technicality thrown up by a controversial new legal ruling.

The Supreme Court recently ruled that it was a breach of a suspect's human rights if officers interviewed them without the presence of a lawyer. Although the law was hurriedly changed, it led to a number of appeals.
