ALLIED Domecq, the drinks giant, said it was "vehemently opposed" to Treasury proposals to force whisky producers to strip stamp bottles to cut down on fraud, saying they were neither "credible or justified".

Following a meeting between John Healey, economic secretary to the Treasury, and whisky producers, Allied appeared to warn of the prospect of job losses at its Scottish operations if ministers insisted on going ahead with the controversial proposal.
