At Patong beach on Phuket island, Thailand, tourists were already relaxing under parasols yesterday.

Only around 40 of the more than 200 hotels on Phuket were damaged and, although the final death toll throughout Thailand could exceed 7000, bars were again open for business just two days after the tsunami hit this resort.
