Economy Close to Seven-Year High; Rise in Turnover Reported by 50% of Scottish Companies

THE pace of Scottish economic growth stuck close to a near-seven- year high in the three months to August, and the expansion rate in production industries overtook that in services, Lloyds TSB's latest business monitor reveals today.

In the survey of 1860 businesses, conducted for Lloyds TSB Scotland by Strathclyde University's respected Fraser of Allander Institute, 50% of firms reported an increase in turnover during the three months to August, 33% a static position, and 17% encountered a fall in sales.
