Jackson Carlaw MSP accuses the Scottish Government of insulting people's intelligence in his attack on the pound(s)15m Smarter Choices, Smarter Places scheme ("MSP attacks government over cost of travel advice", The Herald, July 14).

If he had read the answer to his own parliamentary question more carefully before leaping to the attack, he would realise where the shortfall in intelligence lies. He attributes the entire pound(s)1.36m cost of the work in Barrhead to the household visits that he complains about. That money is also being spent on public transport, and walking and cycling facilities in the area, such as the improvements to Auchenback park.
