TATE & Lyle, the sugar company, is to sever its ties with the Scottish town with which it has been synonymous for 140 years.

The firm is to close its remaining operations in Greenock as part of an internal cost-cutting review. Storage facilities at the Inverclyde docks are to be transferred to its Grangemouth site.
