Summary

THE British Red Cross cares for vulnerable people throughout the UK and abroad. In Scotland, a local network of more than 6000 volunteers delivers its services to help people in crisis. It trains people in essential life-saving first aid skills and provides a vital emergency response service to back up and assist the emergency services whenever and wherever a disaster occurs.

It also operates a range of services to help people at times of personal crisis, which often means improving their independence to help them out of crisis. Medical Loan provides medical equipment, such as wheelchairs, for those who have a shortterm need, Therapeutic Care helps individuals in stressful situations by promoting a sense of well-being and relaxation through gentle massage, and Transport & Escort assists people to attend non-urgent medical appointments and other engagements that are important to maintaining the patient's independence.
