Summary
THE RED LION Channel 4, 9pm
THE documentary film-maker Sue Bourne has a habit of making these really sweet, very humane films about everyday life which in their own quiet way can be both very revealing and rather moving. Her latest is an ode to pub life, as she journeys around a handful of the country's Red Lions (there are, it seems, more than 600 of them in the UK), meeting the people who drink in them, talk rubbish in them, play darts in them, or as in the case of the Newport University netball team and the Whitworth Spartans rugby league team, get absolutely, utterly paralytic in them. "I just like drinking, " one of the netball team tells Bourne in between shots of her tottering around in high heels and very short skirt. There speaks a woman Barry Ferguson would surely approve of. Not sure Arsene Wenger would though.See the full content of this document
