Fallen Stock Scheme Plans to Be Unveiled

Summary


Scotland's farmers will receive a letter from the Scottish Executive's environment and rural affairs department shortly, informing them of how the National Fallen Stock Scheme will operate.

Since October 2003 it has, technically, not been permissible to bury dead animals on farms under the terms of the EU's animal by- product regulations, but it has proved very difficult to devise a workable scheme at an affordable cost, with the result that the UK was granted a temporary derogation.
