THE Edinburgh International Festival has been given an emergency funding package of pounds-600,000 to allow it to go ahead this year.

But the centrepiece of Scotland's summer festival season was criticised yesterday by the leader of City of Edinburgh Council after the organisers asked for pounds-300,000 from the local authority and pounds-300,000 from EventScotland.
