ROSS Finnie, rural development minister, was yesterday accused of making a major error in his proposals to implement the single farm payment, which replaces all existing subsidies from January 1, 2005, under reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy.

At the heart of the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association's concerns is the implementation of the national reserve element of the SFP. It appears farmers will be allowed to consolidate their businesses on fewer acres, but will still receive full entitlement to SFP.
