Scotland used just 16 players in the 1990 grand slam campaign, in the era before tactical replacements were allowed. When Derek Turnbull came on for Derek White after 30 minutes against England, it was the first time Scotland had brought a player off the bench. Those denied a shot at glory were:

16 Craig Redpath The Melrose full-back - brother of Scotland scrum-half Bryan - had the misfortune of playing through the era of Gavin Hastings. Came within touching distance of a cap, but never quite made it. Went on to coach Ayr, and now coaches Marr.
