PREMIER Foods, the maker of quintessentially British brands such as Branston Pickle and Typhoo Tea, attempted to brush off concerns about the Sudan 1 cancer scare yesterday as it posted a 26-per cent rise in underlying profits in its first year as a quoted company.

The group at the centre of the biggest food recall in UK history said last month's scare had yet to make any impact on sales, and was unlikely to result in Premier having any significant financial exposure.
