PLANS to close a children's unit were shelved yesterday after Andy Kerr, the health minister, ordered a rethink at a crisis-hit health board.

NHS Argyll and Clyde has been forced to reverse its decision to shut the day ward for children at Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock from this autumn.
