GEORGE Foulkes, the MP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon, and former government minister, yesterday announced his decision to retire from Westminster at the next general election.

The MP, who entered parliament in May 1979, has decided to retire while he is "still young enough to do other things" and last night he revealed he had "not ruled out" standing for the Scottish Parliament.
