ONE of the biggest charitable foundations in the United States has given more than (pounds) 300,000 to the National Galleries of Scotland.

The Kresge Foundation, set up by the founder of the Kmart chain, was established in 1924 by Sebastian Kresge "to promote the wellbeing of mankind".
