THE SCOTTISH Council on Human Bioethics (August 23) seems at odds with the views expressed in surveys by more than 90-per cent of Scots. If such an overwhelming majority of people want to donate their organs after their death it seems only sensible - as a minimum - to allow their nearest relative to make a call on the utilisation of the deceased organs.
I have always thought that the French are much more sensible than we are with regard to this issue. They operate an opt-out policy. Quite sensibly they are assuming that the average person would want to be able to save another person's life after their death.
