RE your article "Minister attacks plans for immigration crackdown" (The Herald, November 15), the Scottish Government has not scrapped the Fresh Talent initiative. The initiative focuses on attracting skilled people to work in Scotland to meet the current and future skills needs of the economy.
The Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme, which allowed international graduates from Scottish institutions to stay and work here for two years, gave Scotland a competitive advantage. This advantage was removed in 2008 by the then Labour UK Government when its new points-based system for managed migration extended this successful approach across the UK. The Scottish Government continues to present a workable Scottish alternative to the UK Government's immigration proposals.See the full content of this document
