25YEARS AGO ABOUT 2000 Scots are expected to take part in a Labour Party demonstration against unemployment in Liverpool on November 29. The response north of the Border has surprised the organisers. Mrs Jane McKay, secretary of Glasgow Trades Council, said one special train carrying 474 passengers had been booked up shortly after details were made public. As a result it had been necessary to organise a second special train. Buses from different parts of Scotland have also been booked. Five unions have booked space at [GBP]9.75 return on the trains for jobless members to take part in what is expected to be one of Britain's biggest unemployment demonstrations since the 1930s.

50 YEARS AGO THE Hon Nural Huq Chowdry, Pakistani minister of labour, arrived in Glasgow on a private visit and was welcomed by representatives of Pakistani organisations. This is the first time a member of the Pakistani government has visited Glasgow.
