GARY CALDWELL last night made an impassioned plea for parity with his Celtic first-team colleagues, but fears that the silence which has descended on his contract talks tells its own ominous story, writes Ronnie Cully.

The 27 year-old defender, who will captain the side in tonight's Europa League tie against Hapoel Tel Aviv, can't even remember the last time Peter Lawwell, the club's chief executive, held negotiations with him or his representatives. With his deal due to run out in the summer, Caldwell will be free to speak to any interested parties from January and sign a precontract agreement.
