A GAMEKEEPER shot a protected bird of prey three times with a shotgun, a court heard yesterday.

Mark Palmer, 23, denied killing a short-eared owl on a moor at Leadhills estate, Abington in Lanarkshire in May 2004. The owl is listed as a protected species because of its dwindling population.
