LEEDS UNITED'S caretaker manager, Eddie Gray, apparently shed a tear when he was told of his players' decision not to accept a 30% deferral of their wages. I find that very hard to believe. Gray has been involved with this club long enough to realise avarice is the root cause of all United's troubles; greedy directors, greedy managers, greedy players. Why change now?

Driven by self-interest, guided by the unscrupulous, United's overpaid, over-rated, excessively-indulged players flatly refused to take a wage cut. Riled by the bad publicity which accompanied their morally corrupt stance, they now claim no definitive answer was given, that they merely asked the club to explore other alternatives. In other words, they said no.
