Greggs, the UK's largest bakery, announced a tasty rise in profits yesterday and said that it plans a (pounds) 1m expansion of its factory in Edinburgh to meet demand from Scottish customers.

The Newcastle-based company, which sells more than 100 million sausage rolls a year, reported record pre-tax profits of (pounds) 40.5m on (pounds) 457m turnover up 10.4% as it recovered late in the year from a summer heatwave which wilted sales of savouries.
