GLASGOW health chiefs are to cut up to 1000 jobs by leaving vacancies unfilled in a bid to cut rising costs, it emerged last night.

The plans will involve the closure of some hospital wards at weekends and could also mean a cut in the number of doctors and nurses. The Herald revealed last Tuesday that Scotland's only homeopathic hospital is to lose all overnight beds as part of the cost-cutting drive.
