THE RAF Hercules transport aircraft which crashed in Iraq on January 30, killing all 10 crew and passengers, was shot down by insurgents using a simple, shoulder-fired surfaceto-air missile, RAF sources said last night.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed yesterday that "hostile ground fire" had downed the propeller-driven C-130 six minutes after it took off from Baghdad.
