CONSPIRACY theories that the British Secret Service was behind one of the most intriguing mysteries of the Second World War, the flight of Hitler's deputy Rudolf Hess to Scotland, have been dismissed as "nonsense".

In soon to be published memoirs, Lord James Douglas Hamilton says no-one in Britain knew Hess had flown in to the country in 1941.
