WHILE torrential rain and gale force winds lashed the Scottish Parliament, Stephen Hester gave MSPs a lesson in unflappability in Committee Room 2.

As chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland since last November, Hester has been doing a job that is probably about as stressful as they come. His brief includes turning around a bank that we learned on Tuesday was in such dire straits last October that it needed a secret emergency loan of GBP36.6 billion from the Bank of England.
