A CANADIAN backpacker fell to her death from the top of a hostel in Edinburgh city centre a month after management heard that people had been climbing out of a bedroom on to the building's flat roof.

The manager of the Backpackers Hostel in Cockburn Street, off the Royal Mile, told a fatal accident inquiry at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday the room was occupied by staff who were warned that anyone caught accessing the roof would be evicted immediately.
