RON Ferguson (June 12) presents a clear and well-argued case for the Home Office to consider in relation to the position regarding the Thai, Sakchai Makao, from Shetland.

Those who have committed a crime and who have been convicted are indeed fortunate if they are British nationals. Many crimes result from a careless slip and the individual pays the price, in this instance by way of a 15-month jail sentence. The nationality of the individual is not relevant in assessing the future benefit or harm which might arise from allowing the individual to remain in the United Kingdom. Just because an individual is not a UK citizen does not mean that he or she is a threat to us in the future.
