For Sheila Fleet, the pull of home has never been greater. As a child, she would secretly steal down to the shoreline near her parents' farm in Hoxa, South Ronaldsay, and sit staring out at the ever-changing seascape, coming nose-to-nose with curious seals.
Fifty years on, the shifting light and moody skies of Orkney remain her inspiration. When we meet in the cafe of Jenners at Loch Lomond Shores, where she has a busy concession, the award-winning jewellery designer seems almost homesick. "My husband, Rick, who's from Surrey, likes travelling. He is always trying to drag me off round the world, but I'm genuinely happy in Orkney. On a day when the sky reflects on the sea, you get this shimmering sunlight. I love the tundra and openness of Orkney. We've not got many trees - just one or two for Rick - but I like it laid bare."
