Aginger mog, sleepy cows, an eccentric mole rat, a scaredy cat, a brave little dinosaur, a tender young mole, a woolly mammoth and several delightful children entertain and inspire us in the latest picture books. They include two from that national treasure Michael Foreman. Over many years, whether he's teaming up with Michael Morpurgo or illustrating his own work, the skill and sensitivity of his work help open up difficult and sometimes painful subjects.

Mr Pusskins Colours by Sam Lloyd( OrchardL 4. 99) Age 1+ Naturally, orange is the first colour we encounter, in the fluffy form of Mr Pusskins himself, wearing his most" Aren't I beautiful?" expression in this appealing board book. Lloyd manages to weave together a multicoloured story as the mischievous marmalade moggy explores a green garden, dives into a muddy puddle and is brought home in disgrace for a wash and brush-up.
