THE level of publicity surrounding the visit of the Silver Ring Thing seems well out of proportion to the effectiveness of its approach. It says much for its marketing and merchandising strategies.
No-one disputes that abstinence is a valuable feature of any approach to sexual health and relationships. What abstinence only advocates is that "abstinence is the only way truly to protect yourself against getting a sexually transmitted disease, especially as a teenager".
