HE wanted, at the end, to explode in a shower of purple glitter. Instead, Paul Nicholls endured cancer's slow, sad, creeping fade. Though, in Paul's case, from diagnosis to death it was just eight months.
I started reading his blog, Music Is Disease, a few months ago. Most blogs are pedestrian, dreadful, but Paul's was so frank and open I became addicted to checking for new entries, despite the awful subject matter, despite knowing it would have no happy ending. In journalism you meet a lot of people telling you a lot of terrible stories. Some get under your skin.
