As an American, I am not quite sure what is meant by the term "Middle England", but I can assure you, Americans love the Scottish and the Glaswegian accent, even if the Middle English do not ("Is it something we said?", The Diary, August 3).

We adore that burr, and it is nearly as attractive to our ears as an Irish accent.
