SCOTTISH Enterprise wants to spin off its careers service, employing more than 1100 people, as part of a major overhaul of its activities which is also expected to see local enterprise boards lose their statutory role.

MSPs at Holyrood yesterday gave details of the plans more than a month before they are officially unveiled, and backed the proposal that Careers Scotland should be split from the country's main economic development agency.
