HEADLINE annual UK inflation spiked from the 2per cent target to 2.2per cent in May, as household fuel bills surged, but Bank of England governor Mervyn King saw the figures before signalling on Monday that there was no rush to raise interest rates.

The Bank of England confirmed yesterday that King had seen the inf lation figures ahead of their publication yesterday by National Statistics and before he dampened mounting talk of a summer interest rate rise with a keynote speech in Edinburgh on Monday night.
