NOW that retiring Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens [pictured] has said that the law governing the level of response appropriate to the detection of a burglar in one's private property, and presumably to the offence of on-street "mugging" has to be further strengthened to protect the public, has he opened up a can of worms?

While this operational philosophy was intended for the internal domestic market, surely this principle must also operate in the international sphere: citizens have a right to resist the invasion and occupation of their countries. Palestinians of the former British Mandate of Palestine, now home to an established Israeli State, have suffered continuous and expanding unlawful occupation and annexation of territory that was never part of UN-apportioned Israeli land. More recently the US and Britain have illegally invaded and continue to occupy Iraq and slaughter its citizens.
